(Photorefractive Keratectomy)
PRK is a surgical technique utilizing a laser beam to reshape and modify the cornea in order to reduce or eliminate the need for eye glasses and contact lenses. The Excimer Laser is FDA approved to correct most refractive errors with PRK.

To determine whether you are a candidate for refractive surgery, a FREE consultation by our eye surgeons is offered. Candidates receive a thorough evaluation and the surgeon will
then discuss the appropriate options and answer all questions.
The PRK procedure takes only minutes to perform. The eye is anethesthetized with eyedrops and the laser itself is applied for only 15-45 seconds. Most patients will notice
improvement in their vision and can return to work within 2-3 days.
Post-operatively the patient will wear an ultra thin bandage contact lens which will be removed in 3-5 days. Sunglasses may be worn in order to avoid sensitivity to light and glare
until the cornea heals. Post-operatively, there may be mild haziness which clears rapidly in the first month.
PRK has a success rate of 95% or better and most patients become totally independent of contact lenses or eye glasses for distance. Patients over 40 may require the same
reading glasses needed by their unoperated peers. |
